The app
What does Tight Loop do?
You film a fly cast with your phone, or import one. You tap the rod tip on three frames, and the app draws your rod tip path on the video, splits the cast into back cast, pause and forward cast, names what it sees, and gives one loop score.
Do I need a sensor or any extra gear?
No. The phone’s camera is the only sensor. A phone stand or a bag to prop it on helps when you film yourself.
Why do I have to tap the rod tip?
A thin rod tip against bright sky is hard for any camera to follow on its own. Three taps take about ten seconds and give the app a sure start; it follows the tip between them. If it loses the tip, it asks for one more tap.
How accurate is it?
The trace follows the tip you tapped, frame by frame, and the app tells you when it’s unsure. The scores compare your own casts with each other, so filming the same way each time matters more than the absolute number.
Does it replace an instructor?
No. It shows you what happened and names it in the words instructors use. Send the clip to an instructor, and they can draw and talk on it.
Which faults does it find?
Tailing loop, wide loop, creep, wrist break, early haul and others, each with its likely cause and one thing to try.
Does it work for spey, two-handed or left-handed casting?
The app reads overhead fly casting. Spey and conventional casting are coming, and they won’t be sold until they work. Left-handed casters set their rod hand in You, and either casting direction works.
Can I use a video someone else filmed?
Yes. Tap Import a clip, choose it from your library, then trim it to the casts.
Does it work without signal, at the river?
Yes. Everything runs on the phone, so it works with no connection.
Which languages?
English, Japanese, German, Swedish, Danish, Spanish, French and Italian. Change it in You › Language at any time.
Price
How much is it?
Free for your first three casts, with no time limit. Then Pro is $1.99 once, or the local equivalent in your store.
Is it a subscription?
No. You pay once and keep Pro.
What happens after the three free casts?
You keep every cast you made, with its trace, score and card. Sending casts to your instructor stays free, and so do drills and the Loop lab. Analyzing more videos, the ghost overlay on your own casts, history beyond 30 days, games and exam prep need Pro.
I got a new phone. Do I pay again?
No. Open the Pro screen and tap Restore purchases. On iPhone, Family Sharing works too.
Do my casts come to a new phone?
Only in a backup file. Your casts are kept out of iCloud and Google device backups, so make a backup in You › Export and backup, and open it on the new phone.
Can I get a refund?
Refunds go through the store you bought from: Apple at reportaproblem.apple.com, Google through Google Play.
I have a code from a shop or a web purchase.
Codes work in the web version of the app. The App Store and Google Play versions only take purchases through the store.
Privacy
Is my video uploaded anywhere?
No. Casts are analyzed on your phone and stay there unless you share them.
Do I need an account?
No. There are no accounts, no ads and no tracking.
What leaves my phone?
Only what you send yourself, and in the store versions, the record of your purchase, which the store and RevenueCat use to confirm it. The privacy policy lists everything.
Does it use my location?
No. Tight Loop never asks for your location.
Does it record sound?
Cast recordings have no sound. The microphone is only for instructors recording a voice note on a student’s clip.
How do I delete my data?
Delete one cast from its More menu, or everything from You › Delete all casts. Deleting the app removes the rest.
Instructors, shops and guides
How do I send a cast to my instructor?
Tap Send to instructor on the cast. The clip goes as a file through Messages, Mail, WhatsApp or AirDrop. Your instructor opens it in Tight Loop, which is free for instructors.
I’m an instructor. Does this cost me anything?
No. Instructor mode is free, and students’ clips arrive with the trace already on them.
Can my shop or guide business have its own version?
Yes. Your name, logo, colours, languages and price, with a button that sends a customer’s cast to you. See For shops and guides.
Something’s wrong
The trace jumps or wanders.
Usually the tip was lost against bright sky or a busy background. Film with the sun behind the phone and the whole rod in frame, or tap the tip again on that cast.
My video won’t import.
Very short clips, clips with no picture and some unusual formats can’t be read. Save it again from your camera app, or film it again in Tight Loop.
Something else.
Write to support with your phone model and the app version (You › About shows it).
