Tapping the rod tip
After a recording, the app finds you and then asks you to tap the rod tip on three frames: the Back-cast stop, Mid-stroke and the Forward-cast stop. With those three points it follows the tip through every frame in between.
- Tap the very end of the rod. A round magnifier appears above your finger so you can see the tip under it.
- Drag to adjust. Let go when the cross sits on the tip.
- Tap Next for the following frame. The step buttons along the bottom show which frames are done; tap one to go back to it.
- After the third frame, tap Trace.
Three taps take about ten seconds. If you’d rather not wait while it traces, tap Back to Casts; the app keeps going and the cast shows Tracing… until it’s ready.
After your first cast: the frames show a dashed Last time ring where the tip was on the last cast you tagged, placed from your rod hand. Tap Start from last time’s point and drag it the last bit. Filming from the same spot, that is often all it takes.
Without tapping: the arrows under Move the point place the point and move it a little at a time, and a keyboard’s arrow keys do the same (hold Shift for bigger steps). VoiceOver and TalkBack read out where the point is.
If the rod hand isn’t the one you set up, the app notices and changes it for you.
