Early haul
The line hand pulls before the rod is loaded. The haul is spent before it can help, and the cast loses speed it should have gained.

Early haul
Your line hand pulled before the rod was loaded.
- Try this
- Haul with the stop: short and sharp at the end.
What it looks like on the trace
On the Timing tab the haul peak lands well before the stop on the forward cast. The line hand has to be in the frame for the app to see it.
Likely causes
- Starting the haul at the beginning of the stroke.
- A long, slow pull instead of a short, sharp one.
- Hauling out of habit rather than with the acceleration.
One thing to try
Haul with the stop: short and sharp at the end.
A drill for it
The haul timing drill: haul short and sharp, finishing exactly at the stop. Film at 120 frames per second if your phone can. Drills
How Tight Loop spots it
It follows the line hand and compares the peak of the haul with the rod’s stop, in fractions of a second.
