Drills

Coach › Drills has six drills. Each has its own picture, a How sheet with a short demo of the drill on a simulated cast, and a Film this drill button that opens the record screen ready for it.

  • Pick-up and lay-down: the whole stroke, one cast at a time. Back, pause, forward, and let the line land. Watch the stop each way.
  • Stop drill: short casts with an exaggerated stop. The rod should stop like it hit a wall and hold.
  • Pause drill: cast to a beat. The pause comes from your own last good cast. See The pause drill metronome.
  • Wrist drill: the rod-to-forearm angle is shown live. Keep it inside its band.
  • Haul timing drill: haul short and sharp, finishing exactly at the stop. Film at 120 fps if you can.
  • Wind drill: put the wind on the side away from your rod hand, or cast off-shoulder. Tag the wind in Conditions.

Each drill names the fault it works on, so when the review shows a fault, you know which drill to pick.
