A casting clinic with Tight Loop.
One page for the day: what to set up beforehand, how to film each caster, and how they take their casts and your notes home.
Before the day
- Install Tight Loop on the phone you will film with, and on each instructor’s phone. Instructor mode is free: You › Instructor mode.
- Print each instructor’s card from Coach › Share your instructor card. Casters scan its QR code with their camera to add the instructor.
- Bring a small stand, or use a fence post or a bag, to prop the filming phone, and a spare battery.
- Pick a spot with a plain background behind the casters: trees, a hedge or grass, not the car park.
Filming each caster
Set the phone once
Side on to the casting line, level, with the sun behind the phone and the caster about a third of the frame tall. Leave it there all day.
One clip each
Three casts per caster. The app stops recording after three casts on its own.
Tap three frames
Tap the rod tip on three frames. From the second caster on, the app offers where the tip was last time, so tagging takes seconds.
Show the trace
Play it back at the pond: the loop score, the fault the app names, and one thing to try. Then film again.
Free casts and codes
Every caster gets three of their own casts free in Tight Loop, which covers a clinic. If your shop hands out unlock codes, they work in the web version of the app and in a shop’s own web app; the App Store and Google Play versions only take purchases through the store.
Young casters
The app needs no account and no name. If a parent types a child’s name on a card or a message, it is only in the file they choose to share.
Sending casts home
- Each caster sends a clip from the cast with Send to instructor. It goes as a file, by Messages, Mail, WhatsApp or AirDrop; nothing passes through a server.
- The instructor opens it in Tight Loop, draws on it, records a voice note or types a note, and sends it back the same way.
- The caster opens the review on their own phone, with the drawing on their own cast.
- Casts stay on the caster’s phone. Remind them to make a backup file in You › Export and backup.
